Top Ten Luxury
Uma Paro, Bhutan
There are more recent additions to five star luxury in this Himalayan realm but the remoteness of Uma Paro offers a particularly unique mountain retreat. Every room offers a view - either up the sides of the pine-strewn peaks or down into the valley and the snaking river that roars through it. Some offer both. The bedroom in the Como Suite is shaped like a semi-circle to give you 180 degrees views. Inside the nine villas you can wander from room to room following the changing light that sweeps across this dramatic view. Terracing out like small tufts in the mountain, these villas have a private therapy suite and a personal butler. Combine that with in-room dining and you can create your own private in-villa retreat without setting foot outside the door. That would be a shame as there is so much to be gained by taking up the outdoor opportunities such as guided treks deeper into the mountains - either on foot or by four wheel drive. Much of nature - wood and rough hewn stone - has been used as materials for building this traditional Bhutanese style hotel. Large windows, such as those in the round-shaped Bhukari restaurant, simply bring it up full-view close.

The simple dark wood, pine and cream chic interiors with the colourful of murals that splash across the corners of walls and creep up over the ceiling. The yoga studio with its bank of windows that urge you to fling your soul out into the view.
